At our Technology Competition planning meeting in October, a delegation of high school Video Production teachers asked to have video production included as part of this year’s competition. After surveying video production teachers throughout the county, our IT Skills Panel members got behind the request and decided that the focus for the competition should be multi-media.

This shift in focus will allow students in an Information Technology field that hasn’t been included in the past to have an opportunity to showcase their skills and creativity. Since web design was so popular in our competition event last year, it was decided to include it in this year’s event. The new competition will have two segments, video production and web design.

The event will be a showing of the finalists videos and web designs and an awards ceremony to be held on May 29th, 2008 at the Uptown Galaxy Theater in Gig Harbor. The name of the event will be EMMA (Excellence in Multi-Media Awards. The event is in the planning stage but details should be posted by the end of January. Video Production teachers, encourage your students to participate in this exciting event.

1.  At last, a county wide video production competition! PC3 (Pierce County Careers Connection) has sponsored technology competitions for the last four years. This year the competition is focusing on two areas; video production and web design. This is the preliminary notice of the event.

2. Event, Venue and Date:

NEW VENUE AND DATE FOR THE EMMA

VENUE: UPTOWN GALAXY THEATER,
GIG HARBOR
DATE: THURSDAY, MAY 29TH, 2008
TIME: 3:00 TO 6:45 FESTIVAL
  7:00 TO 9:00 AWARDS CEREMONY

The final schedule of events has been established and it does change the times for the Film Festival and the Awards Ceremony.

3:00 to 6:45 Festival - The videos and web designs will be shown in separate theaters on continuous loops as they are in film festivals. During this time, students and adults can view the entries in both types of competition. There would be enough time to have dinner or get a bite to eat at a local eatery.

7:00 to 9:00 Awards Ceremony: The first place videos and web designs would be shown and awards presented to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners. We will also have a keynote speaker and door prizes during this time.

It is our hope that this change will encourage more participation in the event.
